One of the events that Shortfringe are involved with is 60:60. The Digital video 60:60 will be an hour-long piece made up of 60 perfectly formed films of one minute duration. Each film will show one complete action or narrative but also contributes to a build of narrative throughout the work. This work is concerned with time and the infinite ways in which a human being can spend it. In the most resent films we introduce the character 'Man in a Suit' who is seen running up hills, blowing up planes and otherwise occupying his time usefully.
The most significant aspect of this format is a sense of the finality, or inevitability of ordinary, every day life. We hope to create a surreal narrative, which reflects the issue of time, which is ever present in video work and which engages with the, sadness, loneliness, pathos, and humour that is human existence. In line with the Shortfringe ethos of engaging with the idea of art as a commodity, wherever we show, items will be for sale, which will include specially prepared Shortfringe merchandise, including limited edition mugs, fridge magnets, pencils, snow domes and badges.
Shortfringe will be exibiting again this year at Leeds Art Fair which runs May 3rd - 9th 2007, go to http://www.leedsartfair.org/ for information.
